Women's bronze medallists welcomed by 10,000 fans in Belgrade

The women's team of Serbia and Montenegro greet their 10,000 fans from the balcony of Belgrade's City Hall

 

The Women's Senior National Team of Serbia and Montenegro arrived home from their successful performance in the World Championships in Japan to a rapturous welcome in Belgrade. The Girls in Blue transferred from "Nikola Tesla" airport to the City Hall of Belgrade, where more than 10,000 fans awaited their arrival. In the wonderful atmosphere there were tears, but many more smiles and a festive mood.

The Women's team was welcomed by the Mayor of the City of Belgrade, Mr. Nenad Bogdanovic, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan in Belgrade, H.E. Mr. Tadashi Nagai, Slobodan Vuksanovic, Minister of Education and Sport in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Srdjan Bosnjakovic, General Manager of NIS AD Novi Sad, General Sponsor of the Women's National Team of Serbia and Montenegro and Mr. Nenad Golijanin, Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.

"With your ingenuity and extraordinary skills you brought this medal here to us. I wish you more welcome parties like this one, on the terrace of the City Hall. Your quality is a legacy for the future," emphasized Mr. Nenad Bogdanovic, Mayor of the City of Belgrade.

"I would like to thank the girls and the officials of our National Team for the huge success they achieved and to the City Hall of Belgrade and Mr. Bogdanovic, the Mayor, for this cordial welcome. Allow me also to thank all sponsors of our Federation and especially the Petrol Industry of Serbia, General Sponsor of the Women's National Team, for their exceptional help, without which there could not be such worthy results," underlined Mr. Nenad Golijanin, VFS Vice-President.

"You have achieved enormous success in Japan and became idols to a huge number of girls throughout the country. Take care of your coach, Terzic, and good luck in all you do, hoping that we will meet here again next year," said Mr. Slobodan Vuksanovic, Minister of Education and Sport in the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

"The greatest appraisal goes to girls, who have so diligently prepared for each single match. I do wish they become idols of young generations. Their quality is enormous and they have evidently overwhelmingly exceeded all expectations, predicting thus new successes in all forthcoming events. I wish to thank all those who have helped us reach this medal," said Zoran Terzic, Head Coach of the Girls in Blue.

"You have accomplished outstanding success and made us extremely happy. I do hope that you will continue to come from the forthcoming events with new medals under the signage of our Company Petrol Industry of Serbia, stated Mr. Srdjan Bosnjakovic," General Manager of NIS AD Novi Sad.

Mr. Bosnjakovic handed special presents of NIS AD Novi Sad, General Sponsor of the Women's team, to players and officials of the National Team of Serbia and Montenegro.

The bronze girls then received gifts of the Center for Creative Household, presented to them by Ms. Sandrina Wagner, Director of the Center.
